O que agitamos na mão enquanto a fotografia acabada de tirar não surge, é essencialmente brómio e prata. Estes metais, sob a forma de brometo de prata, que ocorre naturalmente no mineral bromite captam os fotões para gerar as imagens. O potássio, sob a forma de sulfato e hidróxido, é o agente que permite o desenvolvimento de todo o processo.
